Iran launches more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel; Biden condemns attack

Hagari described the attack as a “major escalation.” Iranian state media said it was retaliation for the Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building this month in Syria that killed seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two senior commanders.

Israel and its allies are intercepting the strikes, but a number of Iranian missiles fell inside Israeli territory, causing minor damage to a military base. A young girl was injured in the attack, Hagari said.

The United States, attempting to walk a line of helping its ally without getting pulled deeper into a regional war, targeted some of the Iranian drones, U.S. officials confirmed Saturday evening. Britain also deployed fighter jets to the region to help intercept any airborne attacks.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations warned the United States to stay away from the conflict between Iran and Israel. On social media, the mission also indicated that the strikes could be the end of its retaliation, but said that “should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe.”
