Adult-film actress Stormy Daniels was cross-examined Tuesday by Donald Trump’s lawyer after giving explicit testimony about an alleged sexual encounter she had with Trump in a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 2006. Trump, who denies any such encounter, is charged with falsifying business records to hide a hush money payment made to Daniels so she would not publicly share her allegations before the 2016 election.

Merchan, who is overseeing the case, found Trump in contempt again Monday and warned that his next gag order violation will result in jail time. “Your continued violations of this court’s lawful order threaten to interfere with the administration of justice, in constant attacks which constitute a direct attack on the rule of law,” he told Trump. “I cannot allow that to continue.”
Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with his reimbursement of Michael Cohen, his former lawyer turned antagonist. Cohen is expected to testify during the trial.
The proceedings are not being televised. The Washington Post has journalists in the courthouse covering the trial and reporting on what happens.
Prosecutors said Monday that they have about two weeks left in their direct case. Then Trump’s defense lawyers may present witnesses. After that, jurors will hear closing arguments and the judge’s instructions and begin deliberating.
