Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh (D) urged lawyers in the state to offer free or low-cost legal services during the pandemic recovery, as many residents head to the courts to deal with battles over housing, consumer debt, public benefits and family-law issues such as domestic violence.

“We know so many of our neighbors are facing the prospect of losing their homes,” Frosh said during a virtual call to action on Thursday. “We know there are thousands of Marylanders who have been unable to access public benefits like unemployment insurance, and we know that many Marylanders — due to the loss of a job and income — have been unable to pay their bills, to pay the rent.”
