George Armstrong, Maple Leafs captain who won four Stanley Cups, dies at 90

George Armstrong, a Hockey Hall of Fame forward who captained the Toronto Maple Leafs to four Stanley Cups in the 1960s, died Jan. 24. He was 90.

His death was announced by the Maple Leafs, who did not provide additional details.

Mr. Armstrong had 296 goals and 417 assists over 21 seasons for the Leafs, including 12 seasons as team captain. He remains the franchise leader in games played — variously listed at 1,187 or 1,188 — and had 26 goals and 34 assists in 110 playoff games, usually playing at right wing.
