Live updates Biden, Suga reaffirm U.S.-Japan alliance after afternoon of White House meetings

President Biden said Friday that he and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga reaffirmed the U.S.-Japan alliance while agreeing to take on the challenges of China and other issues. Suga was the first foreign leader to visit the White House in person during Biden’s presidency.

White House officials said Biden would set a “final, increased refugee cap” for the remainder of this fiscal year by May 15, a reversal of an earlier announcement to keep the historically low 15,000-person refugee cap set by former president Donald Trump.
