R.I.P. Paul Vasquez, whose ‘double rainbow’ YouTube video was a joyful viral moment

Paul L. Vasquez certainly wasn’t the first person awestruck by the sight of a double-rainbow, but he was the first to become famous for it.

Vasquez, whose death Saturday at age 57 was confirmed by the Mariposa County Coroner’s Office in California, became one of the early viral video stars in 2010 when he posted a seemingly innocuous clip to YouTube. (No cause of death was specified.) The entire three-and-a-half minute video shows two rainbows hanging over a Yosemite National Park, soundtracked by the reaction of Vasquez, the burly, 360-pound former firefighter who posted under the names Hungrybear9562 and later Yosemitebear62.
