Tornado hit Columbia on Thursday, while straight-line winds slammed Fredericksburg

Four damaging storms tracked through the Washington-Baltimore region Thursday

Thursday marked the third time this week severe storms charged through the Washington region. This time, several of the storms were spinning, including one that spawned a weak tornado near Columbia, Md., and another that unleashed 90 mph winds near Fredericksburg, Va.

The tornado near Columbia was rated an EF-0 on the 0 to 5 scale for tornado damage. It was on the ground for just one minute a little after 5 p.m. Thursday, reaching a maximum width of 50 yards as it tore across the Snowden Square shopping mall.
