Republican state legislatures seem to be locked in a competition to see which can be the cruelest to trans youths. More than 20 states have passed or are considering bills to ban trans girls from school sports teams. Montana barely defeated legislation that would have punished doctors for providing certain treatments to trans kids, while the Arkansas legislature overrode Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s (R) veto of a bill that will advance similar restrictions. And North Carolina just upped the ante with a bill that would plunge trans kids and young adults into a surveillance dystopia.
