In closing COP26 remarks, Biden pitches his $1.75 trillion spending package

The second day of the high-stakes U.N. global climate summit in Glasgow was defined by pledges to cut methane and halt deforestation. President Biden shared his final remarks with the media before closing out a trip where he sought to reconnect the U.S. with the rest of the world on climate.

The Biden administration unveiled a sweeping set of policies to cut emissions of methane — a key greenhouse gas — in the nation’s oil and gas operations, in what is probably the president’s most consequential effort to fight climate change to date.
More than 100 world leaders representing countries with over 85 percent of the world’s forests pledged to halt deforestation over the next decade.
Biden is scheduled to give a news conference around 3:30 p.m. Eastern time before concluding his European trip.
Many young activists attending the summit have expressed frustration with the long-term targets presented by government officials. To them, pledges to reach net-zero by 2050, 2060 or 2070 just look like kicking the can further down the road.
