Police seeking ‘person of interest’ after Brooklyn subway shooting

Ten people were injured by gunfire, officials said Tuesday evening, while 13 more were hurt as they rushed to get out of the station or inhaled smoke. Hospitals have reported 29 people injured.

Canvassing the scene, police said, they found two used smoke grenades, two undetonated smoke grenades, a hatchet, a bag with fireworks and a liquid that appeared to be gasoline.

Essig said cameras were not working at three stations, after New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) said a malfunction meant at least one camera did not record the attack.

“This rage, this violence, these guns, these relentless shootings are an American problem,” Adams said Tuesday night, calling for changes to gun laws.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said she had been briefed on the incident, as had President Biden, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
