A 28-year-old Japanese sumo wrestler died Wednesday of complications related to covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. He is believed to be the sport’s first casualty of the virus.

Kiyotaka Suetake, who competed as Shobushi, died of multiple organ failure, according to the Japan Sumo Association. He is also believed to be the first person in his 20s to die in Japan because of the pandemic.
