Edward A. Burkhalter Jr., Navy vice admiral and intelligence official, dies at 91

Edward A. “Al” Burkhalter Jr., a retired Navy vice admiral who served on nuclear submarines early in his career and later held high-ranking intelligence positions, including as an adviser to the CIA, died July 1 at a hospital in Annapolis. He was 91.

The cause was a heart attack, said a son-in-law, J.D. Baldwin.
