Highlights

Alicia Garza, co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, says early turnout for this election cycle has her feeling motivated. “This is going to be one of the most consequential elections in a generation…People are paying attention and people are taking their protests into the polls.” (Video: Washington Post Live)
When asked how the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett could affect minority communities in America, Black Lives Matter Co-Founder Alicia Garza said, “It would be devastating…She has incredibly extreme views about women, about LGBT people, about Black folks, and she would be making decisions in the highest court in the land… I think her eventual nomination, or a successful nomination would mean we would have representation without substance and that we cannot afford. We know that when Clarence Thomas, for example, was appointed to the Supreme Court it has devastating effects on racial equality in this country…People will tout that there are more women on the Supreme Court, but they will not look into the decisions they are making in relation to our communities.” (Video: Washington Post Live)
