President-elect Donald Trump entered St. John’s Episcopal Church across Lafayette Square from the White House for a private service around 8:40 a.m.
Outside the church a crowd of about 50 people gathered at 16th and I streets NW, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
Shouts of “Trump! Trump! Trump!” went up from the crowd as a group of people in dark suits went into the church.
A woman with gray curly hair stood at the barrier and muttered, “He wont’ last.”
Another woman behind her with a red “Make America Great Again” hat shot back, “It’s not your country.”
“Idiot!” a man shouted from behind.
“What you here for?” said the woman in the red Trump hat.
“I’m here to pray for the country,” the woman with the gray hair said.
“Then do that at home,” the red-capped woman said, walking away from the group.
