The photo shows a man dressed in a red Nike sweatshirt holding a shotgun and firing. His target: an ATM, police said.

The incident happened Sunday outside a BB&T bank in the 8600 block of Richmond Highway in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.

Police said a customer of the bank walked up to the ATM and noticed pieces of it were missing and scattered to the ground. Surveillance camera video showed that the machine had been shot earlier that same day around 4:45 a.m.

The surveillance video shows the machine being hit by a bright burst of shotgun fire. The suspect was wearing the sweatshirt, gray pants, a black hat and dark sunglasses.

The suspect may have left the area in a sedan, according to police. It was not immediately known if the suspect got away with any money.

Anyone with information is asked to call 703-691-2131. A cash reward of $100 to $1,000 is being offered for any information that may lead to an arrest in the case, according to police.
