The attorney for the family of a District man who was shot by an undercover police officer last week during an arrest is demanding District officials release any available video of the incident.
George, who was shot in his back, chest and leg, remains in critical condition in a hospital after he was shot by an undercover officer after he allegedly brandished a gun after fleeing.
George was charged with assaulting a police officer and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police said the incident occurred when they responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots.
D.C. police have said there was no body camera video because the officer involved was dressed in plainclothes and was working as part of an undercover assignment and not wearing a camera.
McDaniel said at least one witness account of the shooting said George had dropped his weapon before he was shot. The Washington Post had requested an interview with the witness. McDaniel said the witness was not yet available to speak publicly.
Last month, D.C. police released an officer's body camera footage of the aftermath of a fatal Sept. 11 shooting of Terrence Sterling, a Fort Washington man who was shot during an altercation with officers. The mayor also released the name of the officer. The officer's camera in that shooting was turned on after the shooting, which was again the department's regulations. The U.S. attorney's office is currently investigating the Sterling shooting.
