Watch this plane bail on a landing that could have gone terribly wrong

A plane could be seen swaying violently as its wheels momentarily touched the runway, before crosswinds forced the landing to be abandoned at the last moment. (Video: Radko Našinec)

Passengers on a flight slated to arrive in Prague recently didn’t get the landing they thought they would. In strong crosswinds the pilots of this Boeing 737 deftly avoided impact with the runway.

You can hear the wind howling against the microphone of the camera as the plane approaches the runway. It goes in for the landing when (likely) a gust pushed the plane off course. The right wing dips toward the ground and then the left follows, and the pilots quickly pulled the plane back in the air and scrapped the landing all-together.

Pilots are well-trained to handle windy landings, which is why crashes are so rare in these circumstances. In any given moment, there’s some airport somewhere that’s experiencing less-than-desirable winds. Fortunately our pilots know how to handle them.
