Several children had to be evacuated from a school bus after the vehicle caught fire Monday afternoon.

The fire occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the 9600 block of 51st Avenue in College Park, according to a tweet from the department.

It is unclear what caused the fire, but the 20 children from Glen Arden Woods Elementary School were safely evacuated without any reports of injuries, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.

A resident who witnessed the scene opened the door of the bus and helped all the children into her home, Brady said.
