Announcement from Executive Editor Martin Baron:
She has been an energetic recruiter of up-and-coming talent, a persuasive advocate for The Post when we have sought to attract journalists of long experience and superior accomplishment, a champion of all employees as they seek to develop their careers and a driving force for diversity in our ranks. Tracy also has emphasized the need for regular training, organizing sessions that draw upon both in-house and outside expertise. We anticipate an expansion of training activities in the coming year.
Department heads routinely seek her guidance on the most delicate personnel matters. She serves as a great listener and counselor to everyone, including and perhaps especially me.
Tracy also can be a demanding manager when that’s needed, and it often is. She insists on financial discipline in administering our budget, which she will continue to oversee. She also is committed to ensuring adherence to our policies on standards and ethics. She has enforced them firmly but fairly. At a time when the press is under constant scrutiny, it’s imperative that vigilant oversight be maintained.
Over the course of Tracy’s quarter-century career at The Post – as copy editor, graphics editor, Washington Business editor, the newsroom’s first web editor, features editor, KidsPost editor, Weekend editor and, most recently, deputy managing editor – Tracy has established a record for caring, rigor and integrity.
Please congratulate Tracy on an appointment that recognizes all that she has contributed and the important role she will play in our future success.
