Rep. Kevin Cramer’s son Issac has died, the North Dakota Republican announced Thursday. He was 35.

“Kris and I are grateful we were both able to be with our son Isaac Cramer at the Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester this morning as he went to be with Jesus,” Cramer wrote in a statement on Facebook. The congressman has four other children with his wife, Kris.

He did not specify the cause of death but added, “Now Isaac feels no anxiety or urging for alcohol. He feels no pain and will never be depressed again.”

Isaac Cramer, 35, was hospitalized last month with liver and kidney failure, according to the Bismarck Tribune.

On March 6, Cramer said his son was being evaluated by a transplant team.

Last month, after much speculation, Cramer announced that he would challenge Democrat Heidi Heitkamp for her U.S. Senate seat, setting up one of the highest-profile races of the year.

“My heart goes out to @RepKevinCramer, Kris, and his entire family. No parent should have to bury a child. The support of those throughout our state and the grace of God will help lift them up during this difficult time,” Heitkamp wrote on Twitter.
