We are delighted to announce the hiring of Megan H. Chan as our new Director of Digital Operations. Megan joins us from Politico, where she has been Director of Digital Products.
Megan will identify best practices that can be applied across the newsroom, seek to address any weaknesses in individual departments, and identify areas that require more digital support. She will regularly embed in departments, working side by side with reporters and editors.
Megan also will collaborate with Chief Information Officer Shailesh Prakash’s staff to build products for the newsroom that help advance our digital goals.
Megan has worked the last five years at Politico, the last two as Director of Digital Products. She led an overhaul of the CMS, managed Election Central on desktop, social, mobile and search, set social media strategy, and identified and implemented new revenue initiatives with partners like Apple, Google and Facebook. Before taking on her most recent responsibilities at Politico, Megan was a senior editor who worked on the launch of Politico Magazine and the 2012 conventions and election coverage.
Prior to joining Politico, Megan spent three years at USA Today as the online Washington editor and assistant news director.
Megan is a visiting faculty member at The Poynter Institute and a member of the inaugural ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media. She holds a B.A. from USC and an M.S. and M.A. from Columbia University. She lives in D.C. with her husband who is a JAG in the Air Force. She also happens to be quite the violinist, having studied the instrument since age 2.
We look forward to her start on July 11. Megan will report to Emilio.
