Lightning strikes Trump Tower in Chicago as polls close in Illinois

March 16, 2016 at 10:52 a.m. EDT

It was a dark and stormy night in Illinois. Clouds roiled, tornadoes ravaged the earth and bolts of lightning flashed from the heavens, striking the iconic Trump Tower in downtown Chicago as polls closed in the Land of Lincoln.

A strong spring storm triggered around half a dozen tornadoes in northern Illinois on another Super Tuesday, damaging homes and a church. Over 60 hail reports were submitted to the National Weather Service.

Instagrammer @mrmikeyv called the storms ironic as he caught lightning zapping Trump Tower in Chicago. Donald Trump won the state’s Republican primary on Tuesday night, along with Florida and North Carolina.
