TODAY’S DAILY DIGIT
A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: Drizzle and sprinkles may be annoying. Overcast 40s are definitely not the best either.

EXPRESS FORECAST

Today: Patchy AM drizzle, PM showers. Highs: Low-to-mid 40s.
Tonight: Overcast, spotty showers/fog possible. Lows: Mid-30s to near 40.
Tomorrow: Increasing shower chances. Highs: Upper 40s to low 50s.
Sunday: Showers waning. Sunshine? Breezy. Highs: Upper 50s to low 60s.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

Chances of getting damp are on the increase through Saturday night. By then, rain seems almost guaranteed. Before then, greyness dominates with pesky drizzle and showers. Yuck. On Sunday, we may get a quick and warmer break into some partial sunshine. More sun starts off our workweek. However, Arctic air will have returned as well.

Today (Friday): Yuck, drizzle is possible through mid-morning. Not to mention it looks like another overcast day. Patchy light rain or sprinkles may develop by mid-to-late afternoon from southwest to northeast (30% chance of measurable precipitation) as light easterly breezes keep us socked-in with moist air off of the ocean and Bay. High temperatures stay stuck in the low-to-mid 40s unless we muster some sunshine. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds and rain chances continue. Shower chances remain slight (around 30%) but I still can’t eliminate chances for sprinkles and drizzle. Perhaps even some fog. If we are very lucky, and we somehow get a few cloud breaks (and no fog) by just before dawn, look east to see Venus and Saturn nearly combined. Low temperatures may only fall a few degrees, into the mid-30s to near 40. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): Bad news. Another cloudy day likely. At least high temperatures get a bit higher, in the upper 40s to low 50s, despite the persistent (annoying?) east-southeast wind around 5 mph. cloudy throughout the day. Highs should reach the upper 40s to lower 50s. As a developing storm near the lower Mississippi Valley begins heading our way, we could see rain chances shoot up through the afternoon but remain limited to around, you guessed it, 30%. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Gusty easterly winds — around 15 mph — kick up and start turning slowly toward the southerly direction. Rains really move in, too. Yep, even some downpours here and there. Rain chances vault upwards to around 90%! Much of the region could end up with half an inch to an inch of rain before all is done. Temperatures barely fall at all with low temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Showers may dampen our morning (60% chance), but they shouldn’t be too heavy, as it appears now. Midday clearing may allow for some afternoon peeks of sunshine. We’ve earned it. And earned high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. Wow. Comfortable, and pleasant with un-muggy air. Although, we could have some gusty westerly breezes at times, so don’t discount needing a wind breaker or other jacket. Especially if attending the Redskins playoff game. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: The leading edge of arctic air may start its infiltration. Skies are partly cloudy, most likely, with chilly (but not unseasonable) low temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. West and northwesterly breezes may pick up slightly. Confidence: Medium

Arctic air is back for Monday into Tuesday. Brisk westerly winds are possible both days, with high temperatures curtailed (thanks, Canada) in the upper 30s to low 40s. Bundle UP! If you like sunshine (and miss it a little) we should have fairly bright sunshine, it appears likely. Confidence: Medium
