These Maryland highways will get a boost worth $845 million

● ●Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Thursday that he would increase spending on the state's roads and bridges by $1.35 billion in the coming years. The announcement came as Hogan said he planned to move forward with the long-awaited Purple Line rail project, as long as costs can be reduced and Montgomery and Prince George's counties can cover more of it.

The $1.35 billion in new road projects includes $845 million for major projects and another $500 million to fix bridges and improve roads. Here’s a breakdown of the major projects, according to details released from the governor’s office:


-MD 404
: Widen the highway from two to four lanes with a median from U.S. 50 to the Denton Bypass.

-I-270: Implement the Innovative Congestion Reduction Strategies — a Maryland pilot program to develop statewide congestion tools.


-U.S. 113: Widen the highway from two to four lanes with a median from Five Mile Branch Road to north of Public Landing Road.

-U.S. 219: Upgrade the highway north of I-68 and build a new interchange at I-68.

-MD 175/MD295: Reconstruct the interchange to improve access to Fort George G. Meade.

-U.S. 50: Reconfigure the eastbound lanes over Severn River Bridge to provide an extra lane to reduce congestion.

-I-95/I-495: Upgrade the existing partial interchange at the Greenbelt Metro station to a full interchange to serve the proposed FBI headquarters.

-U.S. 1: Reconstruct it to a four-lane divided highway with a median, along with bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements, from College Avenue to MD 193.

-MD 140: - Add a third lane to northbound MD 140, also known as Reisterstown Road, from Painters Mill to Garrison View Road.

-MD 2/4: Build a third through lane and auxiliary lanes in each direction from north of Stoakley Road to south of MD 765A.

-MD 5: Improve the intersection at Point Lookout Road and Moakley Street/Abell Street.

-MD 5: - Improve safety along Point Lookout Road from Camp Brown Road to Ranger Station

-MD 85/I-270 -
Reconstruct the I-270/MD 85 interchange to reduce congestion and upgrade structurally deficient bridges.
